If you have diabetes, you’ve probably heard A LOT about how important it is to maintain a healthy diet. You may have even see advertisements for “miracle diets” that promise to reverse your type 2 diabetes in 30 days. Maybe you’ve been recommended spices that are believed to contain curative properties.

But most of that is pretty silly. While there are spices and foods that offer certain benefits, particularly in the field of helping individuals relieve certain symptoms of the condition, and diets that work better for some people than others, there, unfortunately, isn’t a miracle cure.

However, that doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been a lot of progress made towards improving care and treatment. Some of those methods are highly scientific. Some are expensive. And some are oldies but goodies.

Carb counting falls into the latter category. If you’re diabetic, you’ve likely been paying close attention to your carb intake since diagnosis. Carbohydrate content is one of the best indicators for how severely certain foods are going to affect your blood glucose numbers.
