5 Diabetes Tech Advances We’re SO Excited About

4. Insulin Reminder Caps

For most of us, there are a ton of things we’re trying to remember throughout our very hectic days. The fact is, life is busy and full of obligations. And when you add diabetes management to the mix, trying to remember everything, from medications to doctors appointments, can be difficult. That being said, it’s not uncommon to find yourself wondering when you last took your insulin shot.

If you’ve been in this position, you might have found yourself either skipping the dose altogether, or taking an extra one to be on the safe side. And you’re not alone.

Timesulin has created an easy (and relatively inexpensive) way to take out some of that guess work with insulin reminder caps that fit on most insulin pens. Simply pop the cap onto your insulin pen after you’ve taken your insulin dose, and the Timesulin cap will start a timer, so you can always see how long it’s been since your last shot.

3. Color-Changing Tattoos

Researchers at MIT and Harvard are teaming up to develop an innovative new way to track your health: color changing tattoos. These amazing tattoos could allow people to see, on the surface of their skin, changes in their blood glucose levels, among other metabolic fluctuations. In lieu of tattoo ink, these tattoos feature 4 biosensors that detect changes in blood sugar, pH, and sodium.

This incredible advancement could offer warnings to people with diabetes and provide more real-time indicators of bodily changes. It could also take some of the burden off of people suffering from this condition. We think that’s pretty awesome!
