I’m So Excited! The Bionic Pancreas is Proving to be Adaptable!

The bionic pancreas is stepping closer and closer to being revolutionary—for the first time, it is being tested on children between the ages of 6 and 11 who have Type 1 diabetes. Each child implementing the device is attending Camp Joslin, a summer camp for children with diabetes, which combines traditional camp activities with diabetes treatment and education.

The point of the test is to discover how well the bionic pancreas can control blood sugars in children leading a very active lifestyle. The kids run, they play, they swim, and the device is there to not only check their blood sugar level, but administer insulin as needed.

While the FDA has yet to approve the bionic pancreas, both testers and observers seem to be impressed with the device’s adaptability, which is, of course, exciting news!
