Diabetes is a condition that has to be managed 24/7. It, unfortunately, doesn’t take breaks, and it doesn’t rest. Because of that, it’s not uncommon to find yourself needing to address the demands of management at what might be a less than opportune moment.
And it happens to everyone.
On a commercial break during an appearance on the Piers Morgan show, Poison frontman, Bret Michaels, suddenly felt weak and called for his diabetic kit. When the show returned, Michaels took the time to explain his journey with diabetes, having been diagnosed Type 1 at 6 years-old. He even goes so far as to perform a blood test on-air, and explain the process!
While testing his blood, Michaels explains to the host what it means to get a high or low reading and how both can affect an individual. The rocker even gets personal and describes what lessons he’s learned form a lifelong struggle with this disease, as well as some tips and tricks he’s picked up along the way.
Although Bret’s daughter has tested positive for pre-diabetes, he stays positive despite his fears and continues to work to raise money — and hope — for the cause. We love when a celebrity uses their fame to spread awareness!
