Managing diabetes isn’t easy. And a lot of the time it can feel like you’re missing out on some of your favorite things. From sleeping through the night to having to count carbohydrates through the holidays (don’t get us started on Halloween and kiddos with diabetes).
However, so much of having diabetes is about balance. There’s very little that has to be completely “off-limits” if you focus on moderation. Because most things you consume affect your blood glucose levels, the goal should be to make sure you get the nutrients needed to help your body function properly in the foods and beverages you do choose to consume.
That doesn’t mean people with diabetes need to go out and find the diabetes miracle diet (because that doesn’t really exist). Instead, the goal should be to maintain as healthy and well-balanced a diet as possible– just like everyone else. And that doesn’t have to be without indulgences… in moderation.
That can even mean enjoying alcohol in moderation.
