At this point, we’re all very aware of how difficult it is to live with diabetes. Plain and simple: diabetes is difficult.
It can be difficult to detect. It’s sometimes difficult to diagnose a type. It’s extremely difficult to manage. And, even if you’ve had diabetes for most of your life, it can be difficult to maintain control of your condition on your own.
And we’ve all undoubtedly encountered examples of just how difficult it can be for people who don’t have diabetes to even understand the differences between type 1 and type 2. Then there’s the fact that a lot of people aren’t familiar with the idea that MODY, LADA, and gestational even exist.
While that might not seem like a big deal, it can contribute to a lot of hurtful misconceptions for people who do have diabetes. Further, being unaware of these nuances illustrates the lack of awareness people have about diabetes, generally. By ensuring more people are educated on the subject, we can go a long way towards prevention of certain types.
