If you have a pet, you know that not much beats their unconditional love. You understand the wonderful feeling you get from coming home after a long day and being greeted by their wagging tail. Or how they somehow seem to understand when you’re having a bad day. Or how fun it is to get outside on a beautiful day with your pup by your side.
They give us so much.
For Mike Graham, this fact is perhaps truer for him than most. Graham’s faithful dog Copper literally saved his life.
Mike Graham has had type 2 diabetes for 25 years. Like many people, he struggles to keep his numbers in a healthy range. One day, while taking a nap at home alone, he was awakened by his dog Copper. His faithful dog was whining, whimpering, and licking his face.
When Graham tried to sit up, he immediately felt the hypoglycemic episode. He was trembling, and could barely move. And after testing his blood sugar, he realized he was so low that he was actually headed for a diabetic coma. Without the help of this awesome diabetes-hero, Copper, Graham wouldn’t have woken up to realize he was in danger.
What an amazing dog!
