Type 2 diabetes is a growing disease and is affecting millions of individuals around the world In fact, statistics suggest that one in three North Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Further, it can affect anyone. While there are a lot of factors that determine what puts an individual at risk of developing diabetes, the condition ultimately doesn’t care what your age, weight, gender, or race is.
With type 2 diabetes comes some pretty substantial risks. For instance, vision loss, heart and blood vessel disease, kidney damage, and nerve damage, known as diabetic neuropathy are all complications that can result from the condition. What’s worse, some of those conditions can have some pretty severe consequences if corrective measures aren’t taken.
Neuropathy, for example, causes sufferers a great deal of pain, and can even lead to amputation. Neuropathy is a leading source of diabetes-related hospitalizations.
