“I Have to Keep Fighting if I Want to Survive”: Calvin’s War with Type 1 Diabetes

Proper greatergood_ctg_belowtitle

Ten-year-old Calvin remembers going to a party and drinking a whole gallon of root beer (literally!), and having a constant urge to use the bathroom. Luckily for Calvin, an adult in his life recognized his symptoms, and suggested to his parents that he might have Type 1 diabetes.

Calvin was diagnosed, and is now on an insulin pump (“It cost more than my first three cars combined!” Dad says ruefully), and is vigilantly managing the disease. From 2am testings to carefully measuring everything he eats, he is working hard to control his diabetes.

However, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t live each day to the fullest. Calvin plays soccer, helps in the yard, and generally enjoys the life of an average ten-year-old kid.

Watch the story of a boy who battles a silent enemy every day with a courageous, loving heart.
