Insulin Independence

Peter Nerothin, founder of Insulin Independence, shows kids that despite their diabetes, they can do whatever physical activity they love to do as long as they keep their diabetes under control. Not your typical diabetes camp, Peter created the group after he realized there was not much support for athletes who wanted to explore extreme capacities of physical activity with diabetes.

Taking five type 1 teens and five adults with diabetes they started their trek through the Colorado wilderness. Through this week-long venture, the teens and adults were paired up and created a community that exchanged insulin strategies, interests, and the ability to do what they dreamed of. It was a physical test that put their diabetes in the spot light. Watch and learn how these teens and adults worked together to scale the summit of a mountain 14,000 feet high all with diabetes!
