We’ve all heard it before: fast food isn’t the best option for healthy eating. Even menu items that market themselves as healthy are often full of hidden carbs, sugar, fat, and calories. The notion of deceiving ingredients is one that is, of course, not unique to fast food establishments. Dining out can be full of dietary pitfalls because, well, things like butter and sugar can go a long way in enhancing the taste of our favorite foods. So, even things we’ve cooked at home for well-balanced, healthy meals might not be quite so well-balanced or healthy when you’re at a restaurant. That being said, sit-down restaurants are much more inclined to use fresh, high quality ingredients (depending on where you go) than your average fast food chain, making the latter that much harder to navigate.
And while ideally we can say the best option is to scrap fast food dining altogether, let’s be honest: that can be easier said than done.
