Type 1, type 2, MODY, LADA, gestational… they all fall under the umbrella of “diabetes,” and while they share certain similarities, they’re actually very different from each other. These differences help determine treatment and management plans, as well as offer important insight into an individual’s condition. In this regard, understanding which type you’re talking about is imperative.
On a more personal level, it can be difficult when friends and family members don’t acknowledge or understand your condition. Additionally, lumping types together can be downright confusing. Further, when we don’t recognize the different types, it’s a way of ignoring the struggle an individual goes through when managing their condition.
