There are a lot of myths about what it means to have diabetes, and many of them revolve around food. There are myths that suggest people with diabetes can’t have sugar. These myths are often spurred by a lack of information, or too much misinformation. There are others that a little more nefarious in nature– people trying to make a quick buck pedaling “miracle cures” and “diabetes-busting diets.”
But the truth is, most doctors don’t recommend people with diabetes follow a diet that’s all that different from the well-balanced diet recommended to everyone. Get lots of vegetables, fruits, lean protein, healthy fats, and whole grains.
But what about sweets? Well, just like with everyone, people with diabetes can typically indulge in a sweet treat, as long as they exercise moderation.
