Skier Kris Freeman Goes for Gold Despite Type 1

When he was diagnosed with Type 1, cross country skier Kris Freeman was devastated by the news that he’d never be able to compete at the highest levels of the sport. But he was a champion at heart, determined to beat Type 1: and did he ever.

Today, Kris is a three-time Olympian and inspiration to skiers (and people living with diabetes) everywhere. In this profile, Kris talks about how he learned to manage Type 1, including the extreme hormonal stress brought on by competition, and how he works with kids to encourage them pursue their dreams.
