Today Scott Dunton is a champion surfer, but when he was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he wouldn’t consider himself a champion at managing his diabetes. Surfing since he was five-year-old, Scott grew up in the water and was a very active kid. Not worrying about what he ate, drank, or did, it was definitely a mental and physical battle when he was diagnosed at the age of 16.

Watch as Scott admits his diabetes denial at first but after attending a diabetes camp he was finally able to accept his diagnosis and realize he wasn’t alone. He learned he could still live a normal life while being in control of his diabetes.
