Team Type 1 Gets One Shot
Phil Southerland was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes less than two months after he was born, and doctors estimated that he wouldn’t live past his mid-twenties. However, defying all odds, Southerland has not only survived, but co-founded the professional bicycling team called Team Type 1, which is exclusively made up of cyclists with type 1 diabetes.
Diabetic filmmaker Lisa Hepner featured Southerland and Team Type 1 in her documentary One Shot, a film about living with diabetes.
In this video, interviewer Greer Wylder discusses diabetes, cycling, and the film with Southerland and Hepner — check it out!
