The Inner Workings of The Bionic Pancreas

Professor Ed Damiano has been working on the bionic pancreas since 2012 and hopes to have it on the market by 2017, when his type 1 son is headed off to college.

Different from other diabetes technology like the insulin pump, the bionic pancreas emulates the physiological function of a pancreas by using both insulin and glucagon. Their goal is not to treat hypoglycemia when it occurs, but to use both insulin and glucagon to prevent the need to rescue your body from an off the charts glucose level. Watch and learn more about this remarkable technology!
