There are lot of things that need to be taken into consideration when managing a condition like diabetes. Things a lot of people who don’t have diabetes would think about because they don’t have to deal with it on a daily basis.
For instance, many people might not consider the effects exercise has on their blood glucose levels. Or the way stress, a lack of sleep, or even smoking can affect them. While most people know food and beverages have an effect on blood sugar levels, some might not consider that alcohol consumption needs to carefully moderated.
But that doesn’t have to mean people with diabetes have to abstain from alcohol entirely. Instead, they just need to know what they need to look out for. For instance, it’s important to know the difference between having had too much to drink, and simply having low blood sugar. It’s equally important to know the nutritional facts in the alcohol you’re consuming, and to establish ways to ensure you continue to drink in moderation even if your judgment is a bit impaired.
