15 Year-Old Rachel Shows Us a Day in the Life of a Type 1 Diabetic

Type 1 diabetes affects a person’s life in so many ways. For people who don’t live with the reality of constant monitoring and testing, it can be hard to understand the purpose of frequently checking your blood sugar levels, keeping track of everything you eat, and listening to your body. If you have diabetes, you have no choice but to understand this.

This video below follows Rachel, a young woman diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just before her 7th birthday. Now 15, Rachel offers a glimpse into her life, and we’re able to see how the condition affects everything in her life, including the people around her. From dictating meal times, to social interactions, diabetes causes Rachel to constantly be aware of her condition.

Take a look at how Rachel faces the day-to-day challenges of type 1 diabetes, and let us know what you think in the comments!
